One of the most soothing spots in a canyon is when there is a wide, flat, quiet spot where the river seems to stay and talk with you about its travels and where it is going next. It's gathering energy for the rapids down through the canyon. As I painted this I could almost feel the moisture in my studio and the birds singing.
